At the core of our mission lies groundbreaking scientific research aimed at enhancing the quality of life for all those affected by Parkinson’s disease. Discover our efforts to drive forward research and our commitment to ultimately eradicating Parkinson’s.
Changing the Course of Parkinson’s
As a leading supporter of Parkinson’s research since 2018, we are dedicated to driving pioneering discoveries aimed at alleviating, curing, and preventing the disease. While the root cause of Parkinson’s remains elusive, ‘Parkinson’s Foundation’s’ history of strategic research investments, totaling over $400 million, propels transformative advancements to unravel this disease’s mysteries.
The ‘Parkinson’s Foundation’s’ research funding has yielded significant breakthroughs, including:
- The identification of alpha-synuclein, the first gene linked to Parkinson’s.
- The development of the Hoehn and Yahr scale, a standard tool for measuring Parkinson’s progression.
- Pioneering the first double-blind clinical trial of carbidopa/levodopa (Sinemet®) in collaboration with Merck, Inc.
- Creation of the Unified Parkinson’s Disease Rating Scale, now widely adopted in Parkinson’s research and clinical trials.
